WordPlay's summer workshops immerse children and teens in multi-disciplinary creative experiences, giving them the space to read, write, create and connect with peers from around the city. Thanks to the generosity of WordPlay's supporters, these workshops are free to families.
Summer Camps

Teen Artist Development

Join us for creative hour at WordPlay! We’ll meet weekly to spark inspiration for creative writing, to connect to other youth writers, and to connect with artist mentors. Find your muse, get creative sparks, and learn all sorts of ways to write and explore artistry. We’ll also offer performance preparation for students interested in their writing transforming into spoken word or theatre pieces!
Adventures in Mail Art & Letter Writing
Ages 10 & Up

Ready to take your letter writing and mail art to the next level? Ready to surprise the people in your life with mail that will dazzle hearts and minds? Ready to learn ways to accentuate your family history archive with letters? Or are you just simply ready to initiate correspondence with someone? This workshop is for you! In this intergenerational workshop, participants will learn fun and interactive ways to initiate and sustain letter writing practices and push the boundaries of the standard envelope and 8x11 paper. From interactive cards to developing your signature style of mail art, this workshop will ensure your receivers will yearn for more! At the conclusion of this workshop, each participant will depart with a mail art kit to create letters and mail art for the forever-writing future!

Inklings Story Circle

It’s storytime at WordPlay! Join us weekly as we read a book aloud and have fun drawing, writing, or acting it out! Each week will feature a new book and a guest reader- from whimsy to funny, Inklings is sure to spark your imagination!
