Pauletta Hansel is an award-winning author of seven poetry collections, including Coal Town Photograph (Dos Madres Press, 2019) and Palindrome (Dos Madres Press, 2017). She was Cincinnati’s first Poet Laureate (2016- 2018) and has served as first Writer-In-Residence for WordPlay and Thomas More University. Pauletta was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. She is a volunteer for the Urban Appalachian Community Coalition, with a particular focus on its new Urban Appalachian Leadership Project for youth and young adults, and is managing editor of Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel, the literary publication of Southern Appalachian Writers Cooperative. Pauletta leads writing workshops and retreats in the Greater Cincinnati area and beyond, including at WordPlay, Thomas More University and as core faculty for The Makery, Hindman Settlement School's new online studio for writers of place
